As we have read the many things written about you by your co-workers and former clients, we have learned that you are precisely the kind of person whom the Sullivan Ballou Fund seeks to recognize and affirm. Domestic abuse can be devastating to its victims, some of whom may not escape it for years. They then need not only practical solutions to the housing, financ ial, and safety issues they face, they need love, emotional support, and respect. You provide it. Your work for nine years at Alexandra House has not been onl y a job for you, it has been your call ing, your mission. We learned from many people about the tenacity, energy, and spirit with which you advocate on behalf of your clients. We have read how your high expectations encourage them and even push them to keep moving ahead. We have learned how much you enjoy you them and like to talk with them. We have learned about the outpouring of love and support you provide them. In short, we have learned that your work comes straight from the heart.
Naturally, your open-hearted work has made you a valuable resource for your colleagues. They come to you for practical advice and solutions; they also come to you for guidance, moral support, and reassurance. They feel better about their work because you are worki ng alongside them.
A small selection of the many things written about you demonstrates how much your work is valued.
"I honestly do not believe I would be where I am today bad I not been trained in by, and worked so many shifts with, Camille...She will tell you what she thinks, laugh with you, support you when you are down, and encourage you to keep going."
"A particular situation occurred a few weeks ago; a new woman had come to the shelter and two of the advocates were having a difficult time in completing the intake information form. Talking through the situation, both advocates came to the conclusion they would wait for Camille to return from a client transport because if anyone could communicate with the woman, it would be Camille."
"Camille is a wealth of knowledge. I can go to her for anything and she will know it."
"Even after working with Camille for many years, I continue to learn from her. Her way of dealing with hardship is to still be thankful for waking up in the morning."
"It may sound corny- but she is my idol! Even if it may go against our rules she wil l do anything and everything for her clients!"
"You have given me strength and knowledge to question my own thoughts and hink new points of view. You have touched my life in the best way...I will pass on what I have learned from you to anyone who cares to listen."
"I am sure God looks upon you and smiles, for all the goodness you extend to others."
"Thank you for the inspiration you have provided us. It has been a pleasure for us at the Sullivan Ballou Fund to learn about you and your work; the world seems a little more beautiful and hopeful now that we know you are in it."
"Camille was so great! I will be like her some day!"
"Camille should be commended and given a raise!"
Congratulations!
